“Amazing,” I say. “The kid I told you about who’s been struggling a lot actually volunteered to come up to the board and solve a problem today, and he did it exactly right, it was…” I have no words, so I just shake my head and smile.

“You made a difference in the world today.” He kisses me again, sliding his hands down to my ass and giving it a playful squeeze.

“I made a difference in the world today,” I agree, feeling the truth of it in my bones.

I spent so much of my life thinking the only way I could fulfill my potential was to become an important scientist working for the government and solving world hunger or helping us colonize the moon or something, but Theo was right. I can do so much good in the world just by doing what I love the most.

“I was thinking we should get naked and eat dinner in bed.” He waggles his eyebrows at me, and I laugh.

“You know I’m down with any plan that involves being naked.” I kiss his chin. “And after we eat, we can finish reading that chapter together. I know you’re dying to find out how Mermen fuck.”

“Hell yes, I am. But only if we act it out after.”

“Deal.” And then I kiss him again because I can, because he’s my husband and everything is perfect, just the way it’s supposed to be.
